...Reminds them about subscribing to ideals of justice and progress
Mar 8, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday administered the oath of office on members of the State Judicial Service Commission, reminding them that they have taken oaths to subscribe to the ideals of justice and progress which the State espouses.
Governor Fashola who spoke at the State Executive Council Chambers at Lagos House, Alausa, the appointees should also note that they have taken an oath of secrecy which means that in the discharge of their duties they will come across information that must be guarded jealously in the overall interest of the State.
He explained that often some oaths are taken not in the full consciousness of its impact, adding that this cannot be more felt than in the process of decision making when policies are being considered and the people who will take it do not feel confident that what they say will be protected.
He added that what is likely to obtain is incomplete contribution of people contributing out of fear, adding that the people who formulated the oath had the reason for it. They wanted a protection of not only the citizens but public servants.
Governor Fashola affirmed that: “I hope in the course of taking policy decisions, you will keep the confidentiality of what has been brought to your knowledge. It is very important for the successful administration of the public service.
